Rav Representing Australia at the WMO Meeting in Thailand

“I was in Bangkok in March for the WMO Pro-Am World Cup. A World Congress meeting was head with the World heads present from 42 countries. The meeting was held to focus on building Muay Thai not only as a sport but a culture too”

Rav says that the meeting helped him to focus on getting back to the roots of Muay Thai, and explore its culture and history.

The most important thing I took away from the meeting was, getting back to the roots of Muay, which is Muay Boran. The basics must be taught like learning all the names of techniques but in Thai. The culture of Muay, the history. A syllabus was also discussed for new students. Referring and Judging were also discussed and explained the way Thai judging is like.

Whilst in Thailand, Sidhu also fought on the Yakkao show in front of a huge crowd. He absolutely fought with skill and strength and stopped his opponent via Round 1 Knock Out. Watch his fight below.

“I Love fighting in Thailand as there is no pressure. Just go out there fight and that’s it”

Sidhu recalls watching old Kung Fu and Van Dam movies back when he was a kid, this was what sparked his interest in the sport. Since he first set foot in the gym at 14, Rav has enjoyed his Muaythai journey and since then has never looked back!

His greatest accomplishment to date is winning the IPMTF World Title in Bangkok. Rav was listed number 3 in light weight rankings after he had beaten some of the Thai’s over the years. Rav says he was contacted by a promoter to face off against the number one contender, due to an injury of the No 2 contender. Sidhu won the fight by a KO, something that he says was definitely a pivotal moment in his career.

Rav says his future goals include more fights, and he looks forward to working with the next generation of fighters and up coming champions through his club, Young Lions Muay Thai in South Australia.12957345_10154095960612943_1186227480_n

Sidhu had this to say to anyone thinking of becoming a fighter;

“Well, I would give the advice that hopping into the ring is not easy. It takes time and dedication, its not an overnight thing. If you really want it, it can be achieved with hard work and with the right people around you.”

When he’s not training or fighting, Rav also teaches Muaythai at Young Lions Muay Thai. Outside of the gym Rav enjoys travelling, fishing, catching up with friends and family, and Formula One racing.
