Australian Team Selections for World Championships

Nationally Registered Fighters (Australia) are currently helping to match fighters for the WMO & ISKA World Championship Selections being held on April 3rd. (WATCH VIDEO)

The National Championships are a great way to keep you or your fighters active.  The tournament gives fighters the opportunity to gain experience as well giving them the opportunity to represent Australia at the World Championships this year which are in Germany and Spain.   We are currently looking for fighters in the following weight categories to compete:

World Association of Kickboxing Organisation

WAKO is the largest international organization of Kickboxing and is IOC recognised.

In Australia, we are able to cater for the novice competitor through to the elite athlete in a range of combative styles available to all age groups and disciplines of Martial Arts.

WAKO provides Australian athletes with a safe competitive outlet, professional and qualified referees and the ability to cultivate Australian Martial Arts to an International standard.

The WMO World Championships will be held in October in Spain.

Competitors who successfully make it through selections on to the Australian Team will have the opportunity to represent our Country overseas.

Last year our Australian team were funded between $2000-$5000 per competitor through WAKO sponsorships and fundraising contributions.

RULES
WAKO K1 Rules:

  • Spinning back fists are allowed
  • Knees to the head are allowed
  • Clinch and knee once, the fighters are then broken and can choose to clinch again straight away
  • No elbows
  • 10oz Gloves, Head guards & shin guards mandatory, there are no exceptions.

SCORING
The scoring system is Olympic electronic scoring and is displayed to the audience all the way through the contest so it is clear who is in front and who won to everyone.

It is also very clear if a judge is scoring incorrectly.

WEIGH IN
Weigh in is on the day of competition to discourage severe and dangerous weight cuts.
